Disability

Disability insurance provides income replacement if you become disabled and unable to work due to a non-work-related illness or injury. Conduent offers both short-term and long-term disability benefits through MetLife.

STD

If you choose to enroll in Short-Term Disability (STD), the benefit will replace 60% of your annual base salary up to a maximum of $8,000 per month. Benefits continue as long as you remain disabled (according to the plan definition), up to 150 days from your date of disability, including your waiting period. You pay for coverage on an after-tax basis.

Benefits are reduced by other sources of income, such as state disability income. If you work in a state with a mandatory state disability plan, including CA, HI, NJ, NY, RI, and PR, review the state disability plan before deciding to enroll in the company’s STD plan. Your combined benefits from the state and the company plan will not exceed 60% of your annual base earnings.

Waiting Period

There is a waiting period before STD benefits begin. When you enroll, you choose the length of this waiting period:

  • 7 days — Benefit payments begin after you have been disabled for 7 consecutive days.

  • 14 days — Benefit payments begin after you have been disabled for 14 consecutive days.

  • 30 days — Benefit payments begin after you have been disabled for 30 consecutive days.

Pre-Existing Condition Limitation

STD benefits are not paid for pre-existing conditions, including pregnancy, until you have been covered by the STD Plan for 12 consecutive months. A pre-existing condition is any sickness or injury for which, during the 6 months immediately before coverage begins, you:

  • Received medical advice or treatment,

  • Consulted a physician or nurse practitioner, or

  • Had medications prescribed

LTD

Conduent pays the full cost for Long-Term Disability (LTD) coverage. If you’re eligible, you automatically receive this coverage — there’s no need to enroll.

LTD replaces 60% of your annual base salary, up to a maximum of $15,000 per month if you meet MetLife’s definition of disability and are unable to work for more than 150 days. Benefits continue until age 65 or until you no longer meet the definition of disability.

Benefits are reduced by other sources of income, such as Social Security and Workers’ Compensation.

Pre-Existing Condition Limitation

LTD benefits are not paid for pre-existing conditions, including pregnancy, until you have been covered by the LTD Plan for 12 consecutive months. A pre-existing condition is any sickness or injury for which, during the 3 months immediately before coverage begins, you:

  • Received medical advice or treatment,

  • Consulted a physician or nurse practitioner, or

  • Had medications prescribed

Disability Benefits at a Glance

Here’s a look at your coverage.

How Benefits Are Calculated

STD and LTD benefits are calculated using your annual base salary as of October 1 of the prior year (or your hire date, if hired between October and December of the prior year or during the Plan Year), not including commissions, bonuses, overtime, or any other extra compensation.

Note: If your pay is incentive-based, annual base pay for purposes of disability coverage is calculated based on your average hourly rate for the previous quarter and your normal scheduled hours.

Pay is determined as of the day before your disability begins.
